Your Animal Side

I wrote this poem when I was 14 years old. I thought posting it today (Halloween) would be the perfect time to share. Happy Halloween! Hope you enjoy!

Your Animal Side

I hear everyone has an animal side.
What is yours?
What is mine?
No one can really know for sure.
Could it be repulsive in the dark, silent night?
Save me from this frightening thought.
I saw a creature enter my room last night.
Could it be what I think?
This is not a story because I saw it.
As horrifying as it is, I believe I saw your animal side.
It’s not ordinary.
Do you want to know what it is?
I saw a big shadow on the wall.
The eyes were blood red in the mirror.
I saw gruesome fangs.
The creature howled at the round moon
And tore into my soft, clean flesh.
I fought back, teeth sharp and hungry
Our animal side has gotten the better of us.

While my main genre lies within mysteries when writing, my poetry generally are romance. Please feel free to leave your comments!

My Destiny

I never thought he would be mine
Until I saw the very first sign
That day he unlocked the key to my heart
Where it had been broken from the start

I heard when he first called my name
But his voice didn’t sound the same
When I caught him staring
His eyes, so full of caring

We talked openly into the night
With the stars shining bright
My destiny is here with me
At last I can clearly see

The Mirror

The image in the mirror
Can be very calm
As you put your brush
In your palm

The image in the mirror
Can be very wild
As you search for
Your inner child

Dark Secrets

I was probably in my preteens when I wrote this poem (and the poems that followed after!) No, it’s not the best, but I think it was pretty good for a child dreaming of becoming a writer. What do you think?

Something’s floating in the hall

As dark as shadows on the wall

Everyone wonders what you’re hiding

But you can’t tell them why you’re sliding

You hide the secrets in your mind

You let it be unknown to mankind

All of your secrets are as deep

As the dreams when you sleep

They fall into a cave with a locked door

You never will take anyone on a tour

You will not give away any rain

Of dark secrets that echo in your brain.
